Now everyday ain’t gonna be perfect, but it still don’t mean today don’t have purpose
Kirk Franklin
This quote is actually from a really good song by Kirk Franklin called, “I Smile”. I first heard this song on the show, “The Voice”, but the original is equally amazing. It’s so uplifting and positive.
Some days, when we feel like everything may be going wrong or nothing is going right, we lose motivation. We lose the drive that helps us get through the day. We don’t always have a clear picture of what our purpose is. I am definitely very familiar with this “dilemma”. For the longest time, I used to be so confused and lost about my “purpose” in life. However, I love this quote because it explains that not EVERY day has to be sunshine and daisies. Not EVERY day has to be extremely productive and happy and perfect. However, every single day has SOME purpose to it. Even if that purpose is the fact that we were able to wake up this morning – at least we did that.
Not every day’s purpose will be to finish writing 4 papers, be praised by your boss, clean the entire house, meet your best friends, and also get your workout in. Not every day will be like that because every day is different. It’s dangerous to fool ourselves by saying that we must always have “perfect” or even “good” days. That’s not realistic because life is life – things happen.
But, are we going to put our heart and soul into every task, however small? Are we going to put our heart and soul into playing with our dog that day, even if that is the only thing we do ALL day? YES. We have to! Sure, it’s also not good to think that we should quit our jobs and play with our dogs all day (I WISH!) but what I’m saying is: don’t be so hard on yourself when your day is going poorly.
When you feel like nothing is going right and you feel super lazy and sluggish, tell yourself it’s OKAY to have these kinds of days. People say life is short but, if we are lucky, we have several years to experience all the good in life, so of course there will be bad days added into that mix! The key is that we can’t give up. If we give up, we won’t ever get to experience our best days.
Just think: maybe your purpose for today is in the small things. Maybe that’s why – the small things are really the big things in the end 🙂
