Oh, how I love my precious coffee & journaling time…
Journaling is a powerful way of expressing yourself. The best part is that you don’t even have to be a great writer, because it’s just for you. When emotions, thoughts, and worries are longing to escape from you, a piece of paper can often serve as the ideal destination. It is a safe place for you to, not only let out your thoughts, but also understand them.
With such busy lifestyles, some of us can find it difficult to stop and write in a journal. I know – it almost feels strange to just pick up a notebook and write about our feelings. It seems forced and sometimes awkward. When I started journaling, I wasn’t able to stick to simply writing about my day. Instead, I preferred to have directed journal prompts that required me to put myself in a specific place at a specific time, in a specific situation. By answering a directed prompt everyday, I was able to learn so much about myself because I had put myself in SO many different hypothetical situations.
I believe that even a bit of writing everyday can help us become more in tune with our thoughts. Ever since I started writing regularly, I found that, overall, the experience also allowed me to slow down and be more intentional with my words and actions. Needless to say, it gave me a neutral place to express and process my thoughts. I was able to reflect upon and accept whatever it was that I was experiencing, without having to force a specific outcome or solution. It made me more comfortable to accept what already is.
Since having directed prompts really helped me, I have written a few of these below for you all. Try to take one each day and just write whatever comes to your mind. Whether it is a sentence or two, or several paragraphs, let your mind run free and see where it takes you. As time goes on, you may find yourself developing a healthy, yet also enjoyable, habit.
Feel free to download this PDF journal entry template, which I have created to help you keep track of all your journal entries. Plus, it looks nice too! 🙂 Check it out below!
