Cooking gives me joy, especially in the evening. There’s something about putting on some good jazz music while the sun is just setting, and whipping up a staple dish for everyone to enjoy. It’s not only a great way to relieve my stress, but also one of the ways I express love. Preparing a beautiful meal for my loved ones is just something else.
Researching meals on Pinterest, sorting through the ingredients list to see if I have everything, finishing up the day’s work quickly so I can run to the kitchen and get to it – there’s just so much excitement involved.
I know a lot of people find the prep part tedious, but it’s actually somewhat enjoyable. I grew up learning so many different cooking styles. I watched my mom cook Indian curries and lentils when I was a kid. I watched my dad cook his delicious eggs, which were always flavored to perfection. I saw my sister baking the most amazing cupcakes and pastries. Whether it was through my parents or close relatives or friends, I picked up different cooking techniques as I grew older.
When I was in high school, I found interest in watching cooking shows on Youtube. I learned so many hacks and recipes from my favorites: Ina Garten, Ree Drummond, and Giada. I’m not sure if it was the aesthetic nature of those shows or the actual joy I saw on their faces while they cooked, but something they did made a lasting impression on me. Without even knowing, I started to create my own style of recipe development and cooking. If I can remember correctly, I believe it started with simple eggs and after-school pastas to baked goods to more complicated dishes now.
Whatever it was that fueled my passion for cooking, all I know is that it gave me a hobby that I love. It’s a wonderful way to serve other people, and I am so grateful for all the experiences that allowed me to feel that way.
Cooking is a way to express ourselves. It also brings out our age-old recipes and makes them alive today reminding us of the wonderful times we spent with our families. Looking forward to more posts on this topic.
So true! It’s a great way to look back on our traditions and family memories!
